"Hello! Who are you? What are you doing? Are you busy? Do you want to talk? Would you like to sit down? Go ahead, it's okay. Can I ask you a few questions...?"
-----------------
This is an independent RP blog for a human (android) Curiosity Core. Be warned, she's a sweet girl, but she will likely never stop asking questions. It's just her nature. (Curiosity Core is (c) Portal (Valve), human Curiosity concept/art is (c) forte-girl7)
“…uh-huh…”
The voice is closer now, and there’s a soft scraping sound, and after a bit, the android comes into view, shimmying up the broken crane arm. She’s smeared with soot and has a bit of a dent in her head, she looks a bit scared, but just the same, it’s her.
She smiles when she sees the little yellow-eyed Core.
“Hi, Space.”“Curi!” The instant she was out of the hole, Space had rushed to hug her. Or rather, hug her leg, considering the height difference. “Thought had gone to Space without me! Wasn’t gonna come back! Was worried! But back now! Gonna get to see Space together!”
“Spacespacespacespace…”
Sitting on the edge of the hole, she scoops him up into her arms, holding him close to her chest and resting her cheek on the top of his casing.
“Nonono. I would never go anywhere without you. Were you okay? Were you sad, or lonely? I’m sorry if you were, I’m so sorry. I love you so much. I thought I’d be stuck down there forever and I was scared ‘cuz I thought I’d never see you again ever, but then you came and saved me, like a brave Space knight.”
She nuzzles him happily. She’s out of the pit, she’s with Space again. All is right with the world.
There was an echoing ‘click’ as he pressed it, and for a moment a heavy silence, followed by a great rusty creak as a great, ancient crane arm begins moving. It circles over slowly, starts to lower down, and then, with a horrid noise, breaks, the crane arm crashing heavily into the pit just shy of the android, who screams, huddling into a ball, not wanting to be crushed.
“…”
Slowly opening one eye, she looks over the long, big piece of machinery. And she’s curious. She wonders if she could climb up…“Curi!” Space was quick to push the black button again, hoping it would undo whatever he had done that made Curi scream like that. For a moment, he was tempted to push a different button, to try and get her out sooner. However, he feared causing more damage, and instead rushed back over to the incinerator pit.
“Curi? You okay?” he called as he tried yanking himself up to see over the ridge again. It was times like this he almost wished he were an android. Almost.
“…uh-huh…”

“Hi, Space.”
“I just wanted to see what was in the hole… that’s all…”
She whimpers a bit again. She’d probably be crying if she could.
“I wouldn’t ever ever go to space without you. I’d get all lost. You don’t go to space without taking a space buddy who’s best at space.”
Buttons? Oh, dear… if there were buttons one of them might turn the fire back on. Just because she could survive being in very hot temperatures didn’t mean she liked it. It hurt, it hurt a lot.
“I don’t know… um… Space? You know I trust you right? You’re gonna have to push the button you feel best about. It’s okay. I really trust you. Just, um, if you accidentally turn the fire on by accident turn it off really quick, okay?”Space stared at the buttons. Some had labels, but with his inability to read, that meant nothing to him. There weren’t any pictures or diagrams… instead, he decided to just base his choice off the colours. The big red button was immediately ignored; red was the colour of fire, and the red buttons always seemed to be dangerous, anyways. Fire could also be white, like white Dwarf Stars, so that button was ignored as well. There were a lot of grey ones. Too many to decide. So Space went with the only colour left. A black one, the colour of Space.
“Can’t see into Space incinerator! Say if it does something bad! Something not like Space!” With that, Space pressed hard on the button.
There was an echoing ‘click’ as he pressed it, and for a moment a heavy silence, followed by a great rusty creak as a great, ancient crane arm begins moving. “…space…?”
Her voice sounded very small, not to mention very very far below him.
“Space? Is that you? You didn’t forget me? Have I been gone a long time? It’s scary down here and there’s no fire but it still scares me and it hurts… I just wanted to see what is in the hole. I’m scared… I can’t remember how I got out before.”
She looks up, trying to see him. It’s a long way up, but she does think she sees a flicker of yellow light. Always so far above her…“Curi?” Space moved over to the hole her voice sounded to be coming from, pulling himself up to peer down inside it. “Curi! Thought you had gone to Space! Needa get you out! Not supposedta be in Space incinerator!”
Letting go of the ridge around the incinerator, Space went to go look at the buttons and dials. One of them would lower a claw to get Curi out, he remembered that much from when Anger had rescued him from a similar incinerator… but Space was worried about just pushing one at random. What if it turned the incinerator on and hurt Curi?
“Know which Space button to push?” Curi was smart. Maybe she’d know which one was which!
“I just wanted to see what was in the hole… that’s all…”

There was an old saying about curiosity and cats. It didn’t end well for the cat.
Therefore, when Curiosity was doing some exploring (Aperture was an enormous place and even having lived here so long she hadn’t seen nearly all of it) she’d come upon a hole.
Something about the hole felt familiar in a way that made her middle torso do flipflops, or feel like it was at least. It was a tingly and scary feeling, but not tingly and scary enough to push her prime directive aside.
So she walked over to the edge of the hole and peered in. It was dark. And it smelled funny in a way that also was familiar. A burnt scent, though she didn’t see anything burning. Funny sort of hole too, not in the ground but in sort of a raised tube thing.
She leaned further in, trying to see how far down the hole went. So far over that she lost her balance, and would soon see the bottom of the hole first hand. She hit the ground hard.

With a soft whirr, Curi’s orange eyes open. It’s dark. She thinks she sees some light far above her. She has no idea how long she was offline, but as her eyes adjust to the dark, the permeating ashy smell, the soot caked walls, she knows where she is.
The furnaces were out now, but this was where the fire was. This was where she burned for so long. She didn’t like it here.
Whimpering, she draws her knees to her chest. Scared. So scared. She tries to remember how she got out before but it’s hard to think. She’s scared and hurt and lost and wishes Space were here.
He must be wondering where she’d gone…Space was taking a different route up to the surface today. He had heard something about a fight between some of his Space Buddies that had happened on his regular path, and didn’t want to risk going somewhere dangerous. By this time, he had learned several routes up, though, and had no issue with his plans.
Or at least, he didn’t until he heard whimpering. Wasn’t this supposed to be the safe path? Whimpering was a sign of pain, wasn’t it?
“Space Buddy? You okay?” Space called out, trying to figure out where the noise was coming from. “Should come out! Can go to Space Reassembly Machine! Or see Space! Makes everyone feel better!”
“…space…?”

testsubject66: "That is a Butterfly. Did you know it can't see it's wings?" He said, chuckling.
Butterfly! :D *giggles as it lands on her nose* You can’t see your wings? How do you know how to use them, then? Do you think you’re just hovering? *looks at it crosseyed*

testsubject66: Oh hello.
Hello! Who are you? What’s this thing? I want to see what this thing is but it keeps fluttering away. *distracted by a butterfly*
*has never seen a butterfly before* *chases after it* Hello? Hello, pretty fluttery thing? What are you? Where are you going? Why are you flying away? I’m not going to hurt you!
For Pinalinet, because I owe you one. I hope I did your Wheatley fine. C:
I’ve never done this scene before, so I thought I should try. But I don’t exactly know how shading works in space. DX
